Achieng Oneko was one of Kenya's founding fathers: he was one of the Kapenguria Six detained (with Jomo Kenyatta) in 1952; latterly he was Minister of Information in Kenyatta's 1st government.
Here he is in Sept. 1978, decrying the cult of personality in African politics.
Oneko: the decay of democratic institutions results from 'the excessive promotion of the personality cult of the incumbent leaders'.
Argues for a strong & principled nationalism, led by a strong party.
