From the police, it is free, do not give money.

The Commander of the Geita Regional Police Force, Safia Jongo, has banned the behavior of some officers asking for bribes when a suspect is arrested and released on bail by their relatives, demanding that they pay something at the police stations.

Speaking to residents of Kamoge Ward in Bukombe District, Geita Region, during a visit by the Geita Regional Commissioner, Martin Shigella, Jongo said it is forbidden for citizens to give anything to the police if the suspect is granted bail by their relatives and fulfills the conditions.

"Listen, it is prohibited to enter the police station for free and then give money. This is unacceptable under my leadership, as your commander. If you enter the police station for free and then give money, you have given a bribe, and I will not tolerate it. I will give you my phone number so that you can inform me about any officer demanding money from within the police station. I have now moved from being a grandmother to being an aunt."

RPC Jongo stated that some officers have been tarnishing the reputation of the police force and promised that if they are discovered, they will face legal action. She also urged citizens to report such incidents promptly.
