TANZANIA PROFESSOR ABDULRAZAK GURNAH WINNES NOBEL (LITERATURE) AWARD

Born in Zanzibar, he moved to England as a Refugee. He studied and became a good Novel Writer and taught at university. Professor Abdulrazak Gurnah won the Nobel Prize in Literature worth USD 1M and became the first black African to win the award since 1986.








Some of Professor Abdulrazak Gurnah's Novels describe the life of Tanzania and Africa in general. After winning the award, Gurnah said.

"I dedicate this Nobel Prize to Africa and Africans and to all my readers".

Many congratulations to him and a good example to our writers.

Abdulrazak Gurnah may be a brand new name to your ears but this is a Tanzanian born in Zanzibar in 1948 is a Professor at the University of Kent, England and a famous author who has won the Nobel Prize for Literature 2021 in Stockholm in Sweden.

The award makes him the second African to win and was announced earlier this week by Mats Malm who is the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy and in his writing is said to inspire major changes in society including describing the effects of colonialism and the fate of refugees.

Gurnah has written about 10 novels such as 'Memory of Departure', ‘The Last Gift’, ‘Paradise’ and so on with the Award accompanied by a gold and silver medal of $ 1.14 Million which is more than Tshs. 2.62 billion.
