President Tshisekedi Ready for Talks with Rwandan Counterpart to Halt Eastern Congo Unrest

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, has stated his readiness to engage in dialogue with his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, to halt the unrest in eastern Congo.

The statement comes after a 180-minute face-to-face meeting held in Luanda, Angola, involving President Félix Tshisekedi and his host Joao Lourenco. However, neither of them made any statements in front of the press. It was later Angola's Foreign Minister, Tete Antonio, who made the announcement that Tshisekedi has agreed to talk with Paul Kagame, as reported by DW.

"The outcome of this meeting is that President Tshisekedi has essentially agreed to meet with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and Angola, as the mediator, now has the responsibility to work to facilitate that meeting," said Tete.

Tshisekedi's decision to engage in talks with Kagame comes three months after the leader vowed not to meet with his neighbor until before God, where the Congolese Presidency outlined conditions stating that before any meeting between Tshisekedi and Kagame could take place, Rwandan soldiers must be withdrawn from the Congo region, and the M23 group disarmed. #UPDATES
