🩺 Position Summary

The Specialist Gynaecologist (Laparoscopic Surgery) will provide comprehensive reproductive health care for women, with a focus on advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures. This role involves diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and mentorship—working as part of a multidisciplinary team to uphold AKU's high standards in patient care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage a range of gynaecological and reproductive health conditions
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and surgeries including:

    • Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH)
    • Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH)
    • Laparoscopic Myomectomy
    • Fibroid removal, Ovarian cystectomy, and Hysteroscopic Myomectomy

  • Advise patients on contraceptive options, fertility, and sexual health
  • Maintain accurate medical records in line with AKU and JCIA standards
  • Mentor junior medical professionals and participate in clinical teaching
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure patient-centered, holistic care
  • Uphold the hospital’s safety and confidentiality policies


🎓 Qualifications and Experience

  • Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (M.Med or equivalent)
  • Minimum 6 years of clinical experience post-specialization
  • Advanced training and hands-on experience in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery
  • Must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT)
